Once a writer is done with his manuscript, it is now ready for publishing. However, he should submit several copies first to publishers whom he thinks may be interested with his work. Here are some ways on how to get your manuscript noticed and published.
Preparation
To publish book manuscripts, a writer should make sure that the manuscript is clearly and neatly typed before submission. Use the standard paper size, use double spacing to make room for copy editing and the title page should contain the work title, author name, address and approximate word length. Publishers publish book manuscripts that are printed neatly and legibly in ink.
Submission
The trend in publishing now has changed and most publishers do not accept unsolicited manuscripts anymore. It is recommended that one should write a letter of inquiry first to be able to publish book manuscripts. The letter of inquiry should contain a cover letter that talks about the author’s qualifications and background. A two page outline of the manuscript and an estimated word count should also be included. Illustrations and photographs don’t need to be included unless requested by the publisher. Packaging and Mailing
Avoid using newspaper when wrapping the manuscript as the ink may smear. Wrap the manuscript securely and use at least two extra layers of brown envelopes. Unregistered mails may mean that the author is not serious in his intentions in publishing his book. Enough return postage stamps should also be enclosed for the return mail. Make sure to have the correct address posted.
